[solved] fbsplash instability

Hello Arch Community!

I recently installed fbsplash following the wiki.  First, it would show on shutdown but not startup.  Then I fiddled for a bit and then on boot it would fadein but then jump to this:

fbsplash bbcode test

I fiddled some more and then it wouldn't show on startup again and only flashed on shutdown.  Then I fiddled some more and I'm back to this.  I noticed someone else had an issue Feb 14th, they both had the same drivers as me (intel).  Is this just instability with fbsplash?  Or am I doing something wrong?  I'd go to splashy or plymouth but I like this theme and would think it more likely I'm doing something stupid than the developers.

Relevant lines:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet loglevel=3 logo.nologo vga=792 console=tty1 splash=silent,fadein,fadeout,theme:arch-black"
(I tried vga=790 first, changed to 792 after reading another post.  Dunno if it matters, it doesn't fix this.  Also tried removing fadein and fadeout)

SPLASH_THEMES="
    arch-black"

HOOKS="base fbsplash udev usb autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems usbinput"
(I've moved fbsplash after usb as well)

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !network fbsplash @crond @alsa dbus wicd)
(I've tried adding slim as a daemon as well, even though I use the inittab method instead)

The other person seemed to be able to remake their initramfs and have it work randomly, but mine just gets to this.  Let me know if there is anymore information needed.  Thanks so much.

Re: [solved] fbsplash instability

I'm gonna build a reputation of this, I just know it...

After spending half a day working on this, I figure it out 10 minutes after I post...

I enable KMS and it fixed it.  Might need a note somewhere for all those intel people having issues.
