bluetooth adapter suggestion

Hi all,

I've been thinking of getting a bluetooth adapter for my laptop. I'm thinking I'd go for a PC-card and I've been checking this out http://www.billionton.com.tw/website/pr … PCBTC1.htm. Does anyone have any experiences with this, or any other PCMCIA bluetooth adapters? Should I have any reason to doubt it's functionality under linux? Thanks for your thoughts.

I've been using a 3Com one with the same CSR chipset, and it worked fine. Everything you need to know is at www.bluez.org .

Thanks a lot for the reply, tomk. I think I'll go for it. One thing I've been thinking about, though, is whether this adapter will work with bluetooth headphones. I have very little experience with bluetooth generally, and I'm not sure what the version numbers really imply (the Billionton is v1.1, class 1). Anyway, I'm mostly gonna need a bluetooth in order to use mouse and keyboard, but would be nice if there would be possibility for headphones. Any ideas? if it will work

If you're talking about a Bluetooth headset that you would typically use with a phone, then yes - the spec for your card includes the headset profile. If you're looking for support for stereo headphones for MP3s etc, they're still working on it.

I was meaning the latter, i.e. stereo headphones. For some reason, I thought those were on the market already.. Well, in any event, I think I'll go for the Billionton since it takes care of my needs. Thanks for your help. Cheers!

My mistake - but don't get too excited. The required work has been done to create the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) spec, and there are some products on the market - this, for example. Your card, however, does not support A2DP.
