Laptop will not stay off.

It turns on after a random ammount of time, sometimes an hour, others a day and a half.

Re: Laptop will not stay off.

Thanks for the info.

.

.

It's no arch-specific issue, not even a linux- or BIOS-specific issue...it's a loose contact at the power supply. Go see your retailer.

Strange, Are you sure it shuts down first?

Yeah, all lights off, I've even removed  and replaced the battery, after a while it turns back on again.

Is there a log file that tells you what caused the power on?

I'm not sure what info to give you, I dont know where to look.

Would a loose contact really cause it to turn on? This is a laptop and it turns on even when it isnt plugged into the wall.

Re: Laptop will not stay off.

Make and model?

This sounds (to me) like a hardware issue. Does your BIOS allow for "Wake on Lan" and is it enabled?

How old is your computer and how good is your 'power on button'?
Does your computer experience random shut downs?

There is nothing on you OS that could cause your PC to turn on, when it's been off for a while, AFAIK (wake on LAN and such things do, though, but if you didn't wake on lan, thats a loose contact, too wink ).
The only thing that sounds plausible to me, is a loose contact or broken switch, that triggers power-on.

In this case, you shouldn't open the laptop in case there's any warranty to void...but let the professionals (well, urm...at least they are getting paid for it, and that's the definition of "professional", though they oftenly ain't too professional wink ) check and repair it.
If there's no warranty and you feel confident, you could of course open and check it...

Re: Laptop will not stay off.
