Optimus/Bumblebee & Quake Live?

Has anyone managed to run Quake Live with Bumblebee?

Simply running "optirun firefox" doesn't seem to make it work: the Quake console says the renderer is still the Intel GPU.

Also, I get these messages with "optirun firefox":

Xlib: extension "NV-GLX" missing on display ":0".

Re: Optimus/Bumblebee & Quake Live?

Is firefox starting despite the message?

A good test if bumblebee is working is compare the output of

optirun glxgears

and

glxgears

The latter one should give you a frame rate of approximatively your screen repitition rate while the first should be much higher...

Re: Optimus/Bumblebee & Quake Live?

Yup, Firefox starts allright. I can even get into the game. But I guess since the actual game is a plugin, it is probably (?) spawned as a new process, and optirun only applies to the firefox process? Therefore the game uses the Intel chip to render graphics? I don't know.

Bumblebee works. For now, I've mainly used it for games with Wine. Some wine games won't even start up at all without optirun, actually.

(Funny thing is, glxgears yields higher framerates when using the Intel GPU... than with optirun! Also, CPU load is actually *higher* with optirun glxgears! Weird! I'm pretty sure bumblebee works though because glxspheres outputs which renderer is being used.)

I use 64 bits if that's of any use.

This definitely is weird. I was setting up archlinux on a friends laptop, and glxgears on the intel was 60fps compared to ~1000fps on nvidia.

There is nothing weird with that, you must be talking about glxspheres.  This point is answered in bumblebee FAQ (https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/wiki/FAQ).

Did someone find a way to use bumblebee for Quake Live ? I have the same problem than pavanky and I didn't find a solution.

Well, both glxspheres and glxgears report higher framerates with the Intel GPU over here, regardless of the transport method in use.

(I still haven't found a way to run QL with bumblebee)

Optimus is an absolute mess !!!

Is there a binary version of quake live? What do bumblebee people say about this?

Quake live requires a browser for finding games and forcing you to watch advertisements, I'm not aware of any standalone version of the game.

I've given up bothering with optimus (for some reason optirun refuses to work at all now - maybe an nvidia upgrade broke it?) and just play QL with the Intel chip, it's not so demanding after all.

Re: Optimus/Bumblebee & Quake Live?

I recently tried this with no success:
Replacing plugin-container with a bash script that just does "optirun plugin-container-original $@". It still used Intel Mesa.

Any idea if it is possible to use the accelerated intel drivers with bumblebee? Mesa is so slow.

Weird, on my machine QL automatically uses the accelerated Intel driver.

Is intel-dri installed on your machine?

Re: Optimus/Bumblebee & Quake Live?

Oops, you are right. Not sure what I mixed up there but it uses Intel just fine indeed (quite slow but I guess I will just need to tweak a bit).
