wonky mouse behavour after starting wm

I have been using archlinux on this laptop(Lenovo Thinkpad w520) for over a month now and I haven't encountered problems that I can't get around with a couple of keypresses
one thing is bugging me though.

after I start Fluxbox (or any other WM) I can right-click to make the menu appear, but I can't click any of the menu-items.
I can't click anything on the taskbar either.

I can after opening the menu, navigate with my keyboard and start a program. I can do anything in the window, but I can't use any of the window controls.
after I close a program window I seem to be able to use the taskbar, until I click on a other window again.

This happens everytime after I first start a WM, if I leave the laptop Idle too long, or closed the lid.

I can restart fluxbox with ctrl-alt-del and relogin in around 10 seconds, but with gnome this is a real pain in the arse

I get the same result with every desktop manager(or none) and any WM I tried.
