However, I suspect there are some modules that should not be included in localmodconf, for example thinkpad_acpi (?).

Which of those modules should be added to the ignore list in /etc/modprobed_db.conf ?

thinkpad_acpi is part of the acpi subset of the linux kernel.

phc_intel is an external driver for undervolting your cpu.
hdaps is a driver for your thinkpad hard drive protection sensor. I don't know, if it's in the kernel or external...

and tp_smapi thinkpad_ec?
I compiled a kernel excluding those and it won't boot.

Modprobed_db is for building a custom kernel complete with the needed modules and nothing more... Or that is why I wrote it. I am confused by your comments and keeping things of your module blacklists. Am I missing something?

Modprobed_db.conf lists modules that will not go to Modprobed_db. What I am asking for is whether tp_smapi and thinkpad_ec should be on this ignore list or not.

Neither of those modules are provided by the linux kernel package. It is a pretty safe bet that some other package you installed provides them. Therefore, add them and ignore them.

$ find /lib/modules -name "tp_smapi*"
$ find /lib/modules -name "think*"
