1.10.4-1 xorg (tried extra repo version as well)
Anyone having trouble playing back high quality MKVs with vaapi, vaapigl or vaapigl2? e.g, using 'mplayer -vo vaapi:gl -va vaapi'? Either the video gets stuck on the first frame and flickers, or a rainbow coloured glitching covers the screen. This occurs in any media player where I try to use any vaapi variant. I already have mplayer-vaapi, libva and xvba-video installed. For now I'm just sticking with xv output on 1.10.4-1 xorg (xv crashes the X server for me on newer xorgs).

Thanks for the reply. Well oddly enough it's working now. Must've just needed a reboot.

I have the same problem here. With catalyst 11.11 everything works well.

ok, i've prepared a simple patch for i686 3.2.8 kernel:
Please remember that i'm not a developer and this could work not...There's also one big disadvantage: i'm absoultelly unable to test it, to even compile it atm cuz of being at work.
So i've got a request: can some i686 user test it for me?
Here's some quickly prepared PKGBUILD (+ other files) of catalyst package: http://www.mediafire.com/?6p9g8436k9leg8t
I put it on mediafire because i don't want to access apocalyptus from work ;PIt would be nice if someone could test it within 5 hours, because i would like to update aur and repo if this will work :-)
FWIW I have not been able to get Catalyst up on i686 3.2.8 or 3.2.9 as of late last night yesterday, using either the repo or aur packages. I managed to nuke catalyst.log when i reinstalled radeon but here is the old log for Xorg:

Hey guys. I'm having a weird issue. I just installed Arch Linux on my new rig, which has dual 6950's 2gbs in crossfire. I installed the latest Catalyst drivers from repo in the wiki.
[catalyst]
Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/$arch
I installed them by doing:
pacman -S catalyst catalyst-utils
The drivers pulled in the latest xorg-server 1.11 and I installed xorg-apps and xorg-xinit manually.
When I go to start x by doing startx the screen flashes, multiple colors appear on the screen, then it turns black and my monitor goes into sleep mode. I'm using openbox and I set my .xinitrc to exec openbox-session. At first I thought it was maybe AMD drivers messed up and are trying to out put to my second 6950 so I plugged in the DVI cable to it, and still nothing. I tried all four DVI ports and nothing. I rebooted multiple times and redid my xorg config two times by using:
aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf
I know the cards work perfectly fine since I'm currently typing this in Windows using the latest alpha drivers from AMD....
EDIT:
Nevermind.. Fixed my own issue. Forgot to add nomodeset to my menu.lst like it said to in the wiki.

Looks like 12.2 is online, let's test it ;P
- xv is fixed when using xserver 1.11
- no warnings when compiling fglrx module ;P
I'm updating repo atm (done!)

yep, 12.2 runs fine with xorg 1.11.4 and xv output
btw. contrary to what the Catalyst Wiki says theres no need to put fglrx in MODULES section in either rc.conf or mkinitcpio.conf. Just blacklisting radeon and nomodeset to kernel line will do just fine.
(I'm using awesome-wm so I can't say anything about Gnome3)

How's it with Gnome Shell?

Apologies for the useless post, but this is awesome news!
Upgrading everything now.

if Catalyst Control Center still shows the older version of Catalyst with amdcccle you can do:
Shut down X
Delete /etc/ati/amdpcsdb
Restart X
Offline
Confirm: all issues with xv output on Xorg 1.11 have been solved. Great work. Finally I can remove the repository for xorg 1.10

It works, xv also works!

Are you guys just straight installing the new Catalyst 12.2 or are you pulling from the repo? Right now I'm just on the basic xf86 drivers for my radeon.

I'm using the Catalyst repo, specifically catalyst-hook and everything is working great.
Offline
xv and xorg 1.11 defenitely looks fine.
Gnome shell still restarts randomly, but less so. I did not yet test tearfree rendering.
Btw, when I move from catalyst to catalyst-hook, I am forced to the gnome fallback mode. I just do a 'pacman -S catalyst-hook'. Or is there some other way to do this?
When reinstalling catalyst, I am getting the gnome-shell back.

I believe either reinstalling the kernel or the kernel headers should be sufficient to get a new module compiled.

According to Phoronix:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … px=MTA2Nzc
12.2 does not support xorg-server 1.12 which is already out and in [testing]. So I think we will need an [xorg111] repo soon...

This is probably a very noobish question, but a quick search yielded nothing (most likely cause I'm not wording it correctly).
Is there anything that I can do if
# pacman -Syyu
keeps saying that there are no updates (even though I'm still on 12.1 (and obviously have the repo set up properly)?
Same thing happened when 12.1-2 came out, it took about two days to appear on my side. I thought it was ISP side caching but even tunneling the command through Tor (using tsocks) changed nothing so I'm quite confused.
Edit:
Never mind, I was being an idiot apparently.
I was doing
$ tsocks sudo pacman -Syu
When I should have been trying:
# tsocks pacman -Syu
Not sure how I missed that.
