I tested the perfomance of flashvideos (flashplugin in official repos and flashplugin-beta from AUR) with youtube and other sites in fullscreen today and it laggs and freezes with catalyst 12.2. and xorg 1.11.4. Performance in video playback is very poor. So I went back to xorg 1.10.4 and have smooth video playback again.
(I even tried: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ca … lashplugin with no success)

Yup, finally got it working. Turns out one of the problems was that one of my xrandr outputs had changed name after the update.

12.1 works fine, so no reason for 12.2 not to.

[catalyst] repo has been updated
catalyst (now in version 12.2-2) package has been rebuild to work with 3.2.9 kernel

yay! I'll update mine in a few minutes then to give it shot. Was hesitant to install 12.2 with 3.2.9 being released.

Catalyst 12.2 works fine with Linux 3.2.9-ck btw. Installing 12.2-2 now.

So what did I do wrong? I updated through the catalyst.apocalypsus.net repo and rebooted. Now I'm stuck in fallback mode in Gnome3 again.
Xorg log gives me this:

Catalyst provides fglrx? Grep your logs for that.

Thanks that was it. I needed to recompile the fglrx modules. All is working again.

Anybody noticed increase of performance when using tear free desktop?
I occasionally play warsow, which is out now playable (if you can tell that shooter is playable in 60 frames per sec, still i was able to be 2nd on the server) with tear free. Till now using v-sync and aspecially tear free option caused me to switch it off asap when trying to play this game.
Also "Amnesia" is working faster than before.
Even my desktop is faster and almost as fast as when using direct rendering.

Is it possible to set the brightness automatically with the catalyst drivers? I can change /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness but starting X sets it back to 100%. This only happens with the catalyst driver, not the open source

Use amdcccle

@Vi0L0 Could you please also update the catalyst-hook package to 12.2-2?
Thanks in advance

I had to update catalyst to -2 version because fglrx module from -1 was compiled on 3.2.8 and was not working with linux 3.2.9.
-2 is just a simple rebuild/recompilation.
hook should work fine and compile working fglrx module for 3.2.9 on his own.

It was my bad. I had recompiled my kernel and catalyst_build_module was placing the fglrx.ko module in /lib/modules. This is why I thought it was an error of the script and needed a new version for the new kernel. Anyway, I looked into it a bit more and everything was solved by recompiling the kernel and the modules.

for future use i've just created:
[xorg111]
Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/xorg111/$arch

Out of curiosity, would I get the same result if I just put IgnoreGroup = xorg in pacman.conf? Because that's what I've done for now.

Since about 2 years (guessed), this is the first version which is usable for me again!

@Vi0L0: amdcccle does not really change the brightness in in /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness or am I missing a setting?
@dejavu: yes, this version works pretty good so far, nice work from AMD for a change.

I don't know if this is the right thread to ask this, but is there any way to improve the 2D performance with some options in xorg.conf or something similar?
I used the open source drivers for quite some time, and compared to them, 2D acceleration is really slow. For example, swapping the tags (workspaces/desktops) of my two monitors (with herbstluftwm) takes nearly 1.5 seconds...
