Is nVidia 173x worth waiting?

Few months ago I had installed 173 while it was still campatible with xorg.
Now Im with nouveau and the difference is quite noticable..
I dont really know if something like this ever happened in past.. if you experienced it, how long did u wait 4 nVidia to make it campatible? Should I simply (actualy, its a headhache) downgrade xorg so I can install nvidia173 and get *full power* of my graphic card or... Do you *maybe* know when they will release campatible driver with new xorg?

The last working nvidia-173xx - xorg combo is for xorg 1.10. We're just about to get xorg 1.12 ...
My bet is that support for legacy cards is not coming back.

Ohh, well... Downgrade..
