Tried installing 2011.08 64bit core on a new machine, everything went fine and booted ok. Updated kernel, rebooted, system hanged up during the boot.
Reinstalled from the net, still hangs up during the boot. Tried reinstalling several times, booting from fall back, cleaning all daemons, etc. Still hangs after the "Adjusting system time and setting kernel timezone" message on the boot. Went though the system logs, nothing stands out. Log pretty much stops at
dhcpcd: Sending IPv6 Router Solicification
kernel: eth0: No IPv6 Router present
Log repeats these two lines a couple of times, then catches my ctrl-alt-delete, closes eth0 and reboots.
Hardware is one year old, pretty standard i3 configuration. I am confused.

Have you tried Disabling IPv6?

Did not do anything. I think I found the problem.
