I have read in many places that manually specifying modules instead of using udev results in a short boot time. How would I go about doing this? Right now I have i915 in my mkinitcpio.conf. Sorry if I am not being specific enough.

Can you post some links to the discussion where people say they get significantly faster boot his way?
Look in your rc.conf for a suitable place to specify your modules.

I'd say the only way to measurably decrease boot time is to compile your own kernel which has critical stuff (sata/pata, filesystem) built-in, so that you can boot without an initramfs.
However, let me give you a warning here: You're about to spend hours and hours of research to then maybe shave off three or four seconds of boot time. How many times will you need to reboot to make up for all those hours? And now ask yourself: is it worth it?
Obsession with boot time is just that - obsession.
