when's the next install disc coming out?

I was just wondering.  My new d945gtp motherboard seems to be unsupported.  I can't use the current install disc because there are no modules for my southbridge, which means no internet and more importantly, no hard drive access.

Then write the current floppy images to some disks and do an FTP install. Outdated, but it works!

(You could probably also use Archie...)

Awww Man!  People still use floppies?  ;-)

I remember the old 8" floppy disks.  I should have kept a couple, but threw them all away a few years ago during a move (same time I threw out some old vt terminals, TI/990 systems and a ton of other old equipment I'd been lugging around).  :-0

rabadash If you don't have a floppy on that system, you might be able to install the image on a usb pen drive (if you're MB supports it) and boot from that, then do the FTP install like Gullible mentioned..

Re: when's the next install disc coming out?

the install disk gives you the option to load modules from somewhere else... if you can find and build module for your stuff and put them on a CD/floppy, the install disk should be able to handle it properly.

Another option is to do a CD install and do the "compile a custom kernel" to add in your modules.  I had to do this with my new machine because the installer had no GB ethernet drivers and I needed sk98lin

Re: when's the next install disc coming out?

I have been working on updating the install CD--just packages and kernels, so that people can download a bit fresher of an iso.
I have managed to update the packages on the base iso so far, with success.

I would like to provide a script to do the same for the full iso, so people can download a freshened package set--I have pity on all those dialup users out there. wink

Anyone can help. the script is linkied in the forum somewhere..

I would be really happy if a new install disc would come out that includes ndiswrapper.

I know Archie is supposed to include ndiswrapper, but are you guys going to make an Arch installer on the Archie disc? Heck, you could even take the regular Arch Linux installer and try to retrofit it onto the Archie disc.

Re: when's the next install disc coming out?

I'm having similar problems, quite identical even (not the same MB, but exact same problems). There's a wiki article about modifying the installation ISO, so I followed it. I'm having trouble with module placement, and frankly, I can't be bothered to look any further into it than I already have.

So here's the question:
Will compiling the stock Arch kernel with everything previously compiled as a module now built-in (sed 's/=m/=y/g' config > config) and dumping it onto the ISO instead of the old one magically solve everything, at least as far as the installation goes?
I'm somewhat of a noob, so excuse my stupidity in the probable case there is any.
