Parole not disabling xscreensaver during video playback

Hello,

I am runnign XFCE4.8 with all updated packages.
I use parole to play my media, and recently, I just installed xscreensaver.

In Parole, I have the option to "Disable screen saver while playing movies" checked.
This is confirmed by checking: /home/siam/.config/xfce4/parole/parole-media-player.rc which includes the line: reset-saver=TRUE
However, when playing a video file in parole, xscreensaver is still starting after the "Blank Affter" time in Settings > Screensaver.
Is anyone else observing this behaviour?

Googling this issue seems to indicate this issue was fixed before.

Re: Parole not disabling xscreensaver during video playback

By energy plugin, do you mean the "Power Manager Plugin"?
I do have that enabled, but that does not prevent the screensaver from starting.
It stops the power manager from putting the computer to sleep while playing a movie.

I do have that enabled by the way.
The problem of the screensaver starting (different from the computer suspending) persists regardless of whether or not the Power Manager Plugin is enabled.

Experiencing the same issue here.

Hopefully a solution will be forthcoming.

Re: Parole not disabling xscreensaver during video playback

Padfoot,

I have filed a bug report here. Hopefully, it gets some attention.
I have essentially disabled the screensaver at this point by putting the blank time very high and am just using xscreensaver for the lock screen function.

The problem is that with my laptop, a ThinkPad X220, there are issues with image retention (not burn-in), and one suggested way to prevent it, according to the Lenovo knowledgebase, is to use a screensaver to prevent static images from staying too long on the screen.

Re: Parole not disabling xscreensaver during video playback

Uhm i don't use xscreensaver, cause i don't need it ( i prefer to switch off the screen instead of use a screensaver and  i use slimlock to lock the screen)...everything is ok with slimlock though.
Have you tried it before? Give it a try, it works very well if used with slim as login manager!
