Hello all,
I'm new to Arch Linux. Having used RedHat / Fedora and then most recently Ubuntu, I thought I'd try Arch for a truly custom install on my new Asus U56E with an Intel Centrino Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 wireless card. It looks like Arch is loading the iwlwifi kernel module and loading some sort of firmware. I can scan for access points but it doesn't appear to associate them and then dhcp times out. Here are some of the details.
From dmesg,
[al@al-laptop ~]$ dmesg |grep iwl

I've poured through the forums and Google for the past week and am really stuck. I have the linux-firmware package installed and the firmware lives at /lib/firmware
I even downloaded and copied the latest /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-6050-5.ucode from Intel.
I'm not sure of the mechanism that the kernel module uses to load which firmware. I'm really out of ideas. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I found. Apparently there is some inerference from an attribute within the driver having to do with Bluetooth. My card does not have Bluetooth. You can reload it with the Bluetooth attribute forced off and check to see if the card will now associate wth an access point. I did this.
# modprobe -r iwlwifi
# modprobe -v iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0
Try to connect. If it works, create this file (if it doesn't already exist) /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
add this line to the file,
options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0
reboot and voila

Did you have any other issues with this laptop? I am looking at buying it so I'm doing some research first.
Thanks.

Love the laptop! It was a great buy. Using networkmanager, works well. It has the integrated graphics controler that uses the i915 kernel driver. Graphics are good. I don't do gaming so I don't know how it would measure up for that and I was unable to get compiz to work, although I did not spend a huge amount of time trying. I use it for web development. Did not spend alot of time on power control. Battery life is very good with the defaults. First time with arch linux. Very pleased at the granular control and wealth of community support.

Thanks, I've bought the U56E and am setting it up now. Everything is working well so far, although the usb 3.0 port is very touchy - if i slightly knock it the connection drops (most noticeable now I'm restoring from backup).
