Bad hard drive

A power surge nuked my server hard drive recently. It's not really an important server so I never bothered making backups, and right after it happened I was able to mount the drive and read/write to most of it. Stupid ass that I am, I didn't try to save stuff then. I figured it couldn't get any worse. Well, the drive is detiriorating and I can't seem to mount my main partition any more. I get i/o errors - seems I've got a bad sector.

There's a few things on there that I'd like to get off if I can. Anybody know a way I can salvage this mess long enough to snag a few files?

Re: Bad hard drive

Hmm, that's odd. It actually was mounting, just the kde mounting status box never advanced or closed so I assumed that it was dead. I'm glad I had knoppix floating around, the bad sectors cause a kernel panic.
