How do you get the global menu? I want to have one in MATE but have no idea how to do it. I miss the easy days of gnome2-globalmenu.

Just finished installing xmonad with xmobar. First time I've not used a huge desktop environment and although it took a lot more tinkering, I got it exactly how I want it while being highly functional. I guess that is also Arch's philosophy in a way.

And postimage.org still 404's for me.

Been a while since I posted; I've gradually been getting the hang of WMFS2.
I'd eventually like to get the "dock" script from the WMFS wiki working like the old selbar: List all clients on a tag and highlight the focused one. Any other WMFS2 users out there? Should we start a new thread on it?

Can you post the rules you use for the GIMP? My rules aren't working quite as well as yours seem to.

Don't have any rules coded for GIMP. They are floating like that and it's set by default to save the positions of each window when gimp exits. So you can just adjust the sizes with alt left and right click.

Unless there's a reason you need gimp 2.6 or floating windows, why not try gimp 2.7? (gimp-devel) which supports a "Single-Window mode"?
(Otherwise, if it's like most tiling WMs, play around with xprop and setup appropriate tags.)

Oh, thanks! Now I can put gimp on the tiling layer and the side-rules don't glitch up.

I finally made the jump. I'm leaving Ratpoison behind in favour of StumpWM.
I was planning this for a while, and since I also recently ditched Arch (simply tired of fixing it every week, sorry) for Slackware, I guess this moment was as perfect as any.
I was already an Emacs user so the config learning curve was not steep at all. The configuration is not yet finalized (I need to add some color to the modeline, a system tray).
Screenshot is showing
Emacs + some TeX (I'm in the process of learning)
URxvt + Tmux + mutt
Fuse emulator + a little piece of gaming history

I use the xfce4-appmenu-plugin from aur. Of course, there is a bit of a dependency chain you need to hook into and compile to get that, but it works.
Have you tried the gtk2-globalmenu package for MATE?

Is there a way you can make gimp 2.7 treat png, jpg et al as simply being png and jpg files? It drove me nuts that it would automatically convert it to a gimp image file and that I couldn't save the png by simply pressing ctrl-s because of it. That's the main reason I am on gimp 2.6 now.

I run GIMP 2.7, but the single-window mode setting doesn't seem to "stick". I was just hoping to get a chance to be lazy I'll add it to my list of things to mess around with I guess. Thanks for the suggestion though.
@b9anders: In 2.7, saving into an image format is "export" - ctrl + e. Takes a bit of getting used to, but I don't think it's a big issue?
