Recently the trackpad on my macbook pro (13", 2009) started misbehaving: clicking with 2 or 3 fingers now has the same effect as clicking with 1 finger. I had configured it so that clicking with 1 finger is a normal click, 2 fingers was right-clicking and 3 fingers was middle clicking (mainly used for copying text) but now they all are just normal clicks. Multitouch still works on the trackpad, as I can scroll with 2 fingers, as well as configure the TapButtonX variables (for example to make a 2 finger tap a right click). I can set the values of ClickButtonX to anything (even 0) and it has no effect on what happens when I click with any number of fingers.
The start of the problem seemed to coincide with an update to xf86-input-mouse, but rolling that back to a previous version (as well as the other programs updated at the same time) didn't fix it. I'll try booting from a ubuntu live cd to see if its a hardware problem soon. Are any other macbook pro users or synaptic touchpad users having this problem?

Same issue on HP ProBook 4520s (with Synaptics ClickPad touchpad). I think it's because of recent xf86-input-synaptics update. Everything was perfect with 1.5.0.

Found a solution. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1072797 I switched to the mtrack driver and I can configure my trackpad to work "properly".
