Kernel Panic

Hey whats up community, I'm cyberpunkarch from #cyberpunklinux on freenode, you may seen my videos on youtube i'm ipodpunker, anyhow

my topic here is kernel panics, ok i don't get them offend, but i have no idea why i'm getting them, My system works fine to the point when i'm playing music, and most of the time its when i'm playing music or its having a conflict, the error of the conflict of the kernel panic, says text to console most of the time... I can't do ctrl + alt + f1 i can't go to my ssh or tty whatever u call it.. i'm using this kernel Linux tuxhat 3.2.9-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Mar 1 09:31:13 CET 2012 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Even before 3.2.9-1-arch i was getting that to like in the earlier kernels, now i use any terminal sometimes i go on irc chat i get a panic sometimes i don't sometimes i do...A

Another thing  i find this to be strange man [could be hardware issues or drivers] is that when i leave my system on , because i do alot of downloads and i also seed my torrents so i keep my network always up u know better for the computer anyhow i will turn off my monitor.. i wake up u know turn on the monitor like u do to any computer right, and the screen won't turn on i mean it does but just blank screen i'm not sure if my kernel panic or my display not being detected weird eh... just shows a orange light SO i have to manually RESET my system this also doens't happen every time , but it does once in awhile like yesterday morning it done that eh.

So i really don't know whats the issue here man, before i used debian linux, slackware, redhat , and never had these panics in my life man... so i'm thinking its something to do with the arch linux kernel eh... and perhaps my AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics ?? people say i shouldn't use the xf86-video-ati that i should use the catalyst drivers ??? i don't know ... well im guessing its my video driver and like u know amd is a new branded cardz its ati but not really ati u know what i mean they are amd ati cardz well the one i have u know.... so any suggestion wouild be good.. thank you.

Oh by the way i'm using 64bit arch linux .. don't get me wrong i love arch linux the best of any os system i ever used in my life so i'm not dissing i love it i just want to resolve this issue, because thats what linux is all about, not to avoid issues to correct them. we are not M$ right wink

If you are looking for some help, you might want to break up that screed into some paragraphs so that is is passably readable. Also, we actively discourage the use of Help!! in thread titles as it is both redundant and annoying.

Also, some log output pasted somewhere would help others diagnose your issue.

Thank you for the feedback been using arch for awhile now and thanks , well not that long since oct. 2011 started with archbang lol << not great experience with that, no hating on it i'll just keep my comments to myself.

Yes i'm sorry for the long and umm paragraph... like i said its a kernel panic most times the output is just data of the panic saying "text to console" , can't go to ssh [tty] nothing just freeze.

using arch linux vanilla 64 bit kernel to the lastest. sorry about putting help i can see it being annoying eh.. i know now wink thanks for the tip.

any suggestion ?

any suggestion  how i can check a log,  i have logwatch  i think thats what it is call, but never really know where to find the logs of kernel panics, if you can kindly tell me on how to do so, i can post it up and show my panics in better details, thank you

If it is kernel related, you can look in the kernel log, or errors or messages. If it is X-related, try looking in Xorg.log. All of the logs are in /var/log.

Umm :-? hmm thanks for telling where the logs , i will always remember that, Now the question is , these logs are not giving what i'm seeing in my Panic maybe its not a kernel panic, i also did check my Xorg.0.logs but no avail i can post u the log but its LONG, and it just doesn't seem to readable lol.

i have no idea.... when i do get the panic,, it says panic reason "TEXT TO CONSOLE" any idea of that ? i do all my updates i check regularly i don't use "TESTING" i stay with the regular settings u know, hmm i have no idea, but i've been getting these panics in 3.2.6 , 7 , 8 and 9 and i'm getting tired of this.

I can not stand a system not properly working the way i want, I do not like panics or errors i want everything for the most part tip top shape,, i get panics while i'm uploading something,

it's annoying and affect alot of my work... sad

I want to resolve this.... the logs are not good man doesn't say when the panic started what the panic error... are you sure its kernel.log ?

Without a more exact error message, there is no way to tell what your issue is. Look through all of your logs immediately after the event and see if you can identify any obvious errors.

Read How to ask questions the smart way: it will help you nail down your issue...

Ok Thank you i will check that out smile thanks for the help buddy! i'll get back to you as soon as I find the error logs and post it... be patient i don't know how long this will take me, and if no avail i'll just wait until another panic [hopefully never sad] but will will come again i'm sure of.  I'll do a quick check right after ok and post it on the form... i just sign up , because i'm always looking on these forms and i'm like well i'm a person that uses arch linux, why not sign up and type my problem.

I do try my best to like resolve things myself, but i'm not having any luck, but yes i'll go to that link and see what it is .. cheers lad %%-

aww i hate to be a newbie i'm a 12 years linux user... i never got kernel panics until i start using arch tongue i love arch gah why man... ok i'll go to the newbie section... any idea you just like delete this post, i'm very sorry. I respect the proper organization of this forum. kudos to that, thanks for the help, once again i'm sorry, this is my first time i ever got a kernel panic, so i'm a bit rusty on how to even sort this out man, i try my best on my own, so i figured alot of arch linux forms are old so i just like hey why not join the forums.  Ok enough blabbing... sorry i did told the message i get of the panic is "text to console" you people never heard of this before ? ? ? that is what i get when the panic screen pops up... panic error "text to console" so i don't know the kernel logs don't show nothing or even x... so hmmm yup anyways i'll take your advice and go to teh newbie section lol.. oh geez this gonna be fun.. thanks everyone ... have a good one.. don't be shy to get rid of this post.. ok umm yeah i most like will get another panic so i'll be more professional in my post.. smile

Also, as I have already mentioned, this doesn't really describe much of an error:

the message i get of the panic is "text to console" you people never heard of this before ? ? ? that is what i get when the panic screen pops up... panic error "text to console"

ok i hear you .. no problem i would clean this up but i see no opition for me to remove this post ? ? ? please help thank you tongue

well thanks for everything people i am thankful for all the help you people gave me tonight.. im going bed.. ill sort this out tomorrow.... so um just let me know how to remove or clean up this topic and will do that as soon as i wake ok.. i'll do better for my forum posting ok.. thanks for all the tips.

After the code cleanup.  (hint:  put the output in between ["code"] and ["/code"] without quotes)

We'd like to see more of this kernel panic, if you could show what the kernel panic message says we'd be able to help you more.  If we don't know the kernel panic message we won't be able to pinpoint whether its a hardware or a software problem.
