What is gnome and gnome-extra

Hi colleagues

What is the difference between "normal" packages and the "package" gnome and gnome extra used to install the gnome desktop? For example when I use pacman -Ss gnome-extra it could not find it.

I tried to search for an explanation but maybe I am not using the right words.

Best regards
Martin

Re: What is gnome and gnome-extra

gnome and gnome-extra are groups of packages, not packages per se. That's why you couldn't pacman -Ss gnome-extra. Pacman's manpage is all you need to learn how to query pacman's database about those sorts of things smile

Re: What is gnome and gnome-extra

Thanks.
pacman -Sg was the command of choice.
