as stated by the topic, the events generated by the power button on my system are not handled correctly - instead, my system goes into standby mode without running any scripts(/etc/acpid/handler.sh:
1) I am using Slim/xfce4 on arch 64 - I have acpid installed, and acpid daemon is started by my rc.conf. I have attempted both solutions by the power_button archwiki article, and cannot find anything relevant in either the forums or in google's search results.
2) I have attempted this with and without the "button" kernel module loaded, and the result of acpi_listen is listed correctly (PBTN) in the console, followed by the immediate entry into standby mode. The script indicates that a message should appear in tty5, however, nothing does appear at all - the system goes into standby, and cannot be recovered without a hard reset (this can be achieved with my reset button).
please inform me of any additional information needed, and any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated!

Problem solved - I simply switched to the inittab method for graphical boot, instead of the DAEMONS method in the wiki.
