Display gets kicked out of DMPS (ATI, Iiyama)

I've got two Iiyama E2409HD connected via DVI to a Radeon HD 57x0 or something. I'm using KMS+ATI from linux-3.3 right now but 3.2 was behaving the same.

The displays enter DPMS mode (any mode, being standby, suspend of off) successfully, but every other second they get simultaneously kicked out of DPMS like they picked up a signal (showing up the "DVI" overlay), but then go down again with a "No signal" overlay. The behavior is the same with a single screen, and is not present when plugged via HDMI (presumably because picking up a signal via HDMI takes longer).

The only workaround is to use the physical switch.
