Near instant kernel panic on boot

Hello, I've taken a look through the other recent threads about kernel panics and other boot errors, but I don't think my situation matches any of those.

I woke up this morning and my computer had hard frozen in the night. I try to reboot it, and Arch presents me with a blank screen (even before I can type my password to unlock the root volume). OK, I think, I better disable quiet and vga to find out what's going on. Doing that, I can see a big kernel panic.

Here's some of the kernel panic I copied manually, starting at the top

I did also try to boot a fallback image, just to make sure it wasn't something about modules not being available. In the new system, is there only one change to the grub menu?

Crap, I think, better try a liveCD and downgrade the kernel. But, the live CD I have has a 3.0 kernel (not sure if it's the latest), but after a while it gives me a kernel panic almost exactly like the one in this post, except that instead of file not found I get I/O error. I don't know if this live CD has ever worked on this computer or not. Is there a way to get an older live CD image?

Now, thinking that it was the disk or a hardware error or something, I try to boot Windows 7. That works fine. OK, next I'm going to try to test the RAM. So far, nothing has failed in Memtest86+, but it looks like it'll take a while to be done.

I could really use any insight you guys can provide

Good to hear you got it working! Meanwhile I guess we'll just keep an eye on that bug report.
