[SOLVED] Difference between repositories

What are the differences between core, extra, community, multilib? Ok, core and multilib do seem self explanatory but the difference between extra and community certainly is NOT.

Who decides or what is the criteria that determines which repository package foo goes into?

Re: [SOLVED] Difference between repositories

Also, who decides if package foo should be 'official' and not just in AUR? And which config settings to build into said package?

...Just trying to get a sense of the lay of the land.

There is a wiki page about the official repositories.

Did you read the wiki?

EDIT: damn, too slow.

Don't know if you've seen/read it yet; but this wiki article will at least clarify it a bit.

Re: [SOLVED] Difference between repositories

The 'Official Repositories' wiki was what I was looking for. Funny, I found the pacman and the AUR wiki pages, but not that one (guess I wasn't that observant).

Thanks all.
