Hi,
is anyone seeing ghostscript errors like
GPL Ghostscript 9.05: Error: Font Renderer Plugin ( FreeType ) return code = -1
after freetype2 went to version 2.4.9-1 two days ago?
I wonder if this is a ghostscript bug, because then I would file a report upstream. I can't seem to find anything related upstream.
Or could this be a freetype2 bug?
Best,
Daan

a quick update:
just installed ghostscript-svn from AUR and the problem is solved. So no need to report bugs upstream.

Confirmed. Opening a ps file with gs/evince yields this:
Loading StandardSymL font from /usr/share/ghostscript/9.05/Resource/Font/StandardSymL... GPL Ghostscript 9.05: Error: Font Renderer Plugin ( FreeType ) return code = -1
Can't render Font StandardSymL with FAPI, will do with native GS renderer.

Seems harmless though...

No, you just hide the problem. ghostscript now uses git. If you use 'ghostscript-svn' from AUR it means that ghostscript uses freetype2 shipped with source but not system one.
I'm using ghostscript compiled from git repo and I see that message. I don't know that cause it is it one ghostscript or freetype side. I'll make bug report lately.

I was getting a similar error using 'convert somefile.ps somefile.pdf'. I installed the ghostscript-svn package suggested, but no dice. Same error.

it looks like it was the freetype2 upgrade that screwed up things with ghostscript.
This issue has been solved upstream and there is a bug open in the Arch Linux bug tracker (bug #29034) to ship a patched version of freetype2 2.4.9
Meanwhile, installing freetype2-cleartype from the AUR actually downgrades freetype to v2.4.8, which also fixes the issue.

Yes, downgrading freetype2 to 2.4.8 works for me too.

just for the record, the fix seems to have been packaged in freetype2-2.4.9-2
