Switch between Nouveau/Nvidia

I need some help regarding nvidia's proprietary driver and nouveau.
I tend to use the console a lot, as well as play 3D games. Now, I want to use nouveau for it's pretty framebuffer when using the console, but I want to switch to the proprietary driver when using X. Is there a way to do this, that doesn't require rebooting?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Switch between Nouveau/Nvidia

Have you tried uvesafb for the framebuffer?

Re: Switch between Nouveau/Nvidia

In theory. Before you start X, you need to unbind the nouveau driver from the console and then rmmod some modules. See "Deactivating KMS and unloading Nouveau" here: http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/KernelModeSettng. Not sure how it then works when you quit X, if just loading the nouveau module is enough to give you a high-res console back.

But note that this way you can't use both high-res console and X at the same time. When X is running, switching to a console will give you a classic 80x25 console. You need to quit X and rmmod the nvidia module before you can load the nouveau module.
