UK Resident Users

we all know that the UK Government has dallied over using Linux for government business, but they appear to stall regularly and only ever include a small subset of functions in their considerations. So, I've started a e-petition on the government website calling for a full review with a view to migrating all systems to open source, and request that you put your name to it.

Sorry everyone else, AFAIK it's only available to UK residents (possibly UK nationals).

I gave it a 6 month timeline - so time for momentum to pick up smile

Re: UK Resident Users

I'd have made the scope wider - included the BSDs and open data formats, for example - and I'm not sure that emphasising the financial savings really helps; the initial cost of switching might actually be higher, given that government drones are all trained to use MS stuff (there's probably a lot of custom Windows software in use, too, that would have to be ported), but I signed anyway. Whatever the details, it's a good cause.

Re: UK Resident Users

Can you edit the text of the petition? Hate to be the Spelling Police, but there are a couple of typos in it: "nuetral" and "licesnsing".

Her Majesty's Government are not immune either, under the captcha image (when signing) they have "Play audio challange" and "Refresh challange", lol.

It may be worth contacting Glyn Moody to see if he is able to help promote it, it's certainly a subject he is interested in.

Re: UK Resident Users

Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about the text now. I have, however, emailed Glyn to try to get his support and promotion - good call smile

Re: UK Resident Users

Although I wouldn't have put it in quite this way either, I would like to sign. However, the captcha is defeating me. I always have trouble viewing captcha images in Firefox so I usually use the audio challenge instead. However, in this case, Firefox wants to download the audio file rather than playing it and my machine doesn't seem to have a clue what to do with it. (I'm only getting a ".part" download anyway.)

Anybody else run into this problem? I've always assumed I have the issue because I use noscript...
