And lo, it came to pass, that the neophyte encountered the Beplattered One and humbly posed the question, "Oh great master, is it a sin to use vi?" And St. IGNUcius didst thus reply unto him, "No, my young hacker friend, it is not a sin. It is a penance."

Re: [SOLVED]No sound

Post the output of the command "amixer" to a pastebin for us somewhere and give us the link. We can't help you much without information.

Re: [SOLVED]No sound

it works now. I don't know what I did to make it work.

Re: [SOLVED]No sound

Though it's a shot in the dark, i might have a theory. Did you have sound before this? Do you have a sound server, or are you just using alsa?

I ask because if you don't have a mixer (like dmix), a program could gain control of the sound card and, even if music isn't playing, hold control of the card as long as the application is open.

Before I enabled dmix, if firefox opened any flash website, no other audio program would work until firefox was closed, regardless if I moved off the site. Perhaps this is what happened to you.

Re: [SOLVED]No sound

I was just using alsa. Of course it was unmuted. I did try using puleaudio but it did not work.

I was using Xffce with SLiM. I think what fixed it was, added dbus-launch to my .xinitrc file. I did this to get automounting to work.

After doing that, sound worked.
