[SOLVED]Shortcut for Terminal not working in xfce

I am using xfce DE. When I am using the shortcut for opening a terminal, nothing happens. The terminal is not coming up. I checked the shortcut for the terminal in its Preferences and I confirmed that I am using the correct one.
Also, the terminal doesn't go transparent even when I keep the transparency in 100%.

The shortcut for terminal given in the terminal preferences only opens a new terminal while actually already using terminal.  For it to be a global setting, you need to go to "Settings>Keyboard>Application Shortcuts"

That worked. Thanks a lot.

Any idea about the transparency issue?

You probably do not have compositing enabled in "Settings > Window Manager Tweaks > Compositer"
