Hello,
I recently followed the wiki instructions to changed from nouveau drivers to NVIDIA, and everything went good, I have GUI/Desktop up and running. My problem is this: the performance is not good. I switched from nouveau to NVIDIA to get better performance for OPENGL and desktop speed and effects, as well as better streaming video. As of right now, I am getting 400's in glxgears and 40's in FULLSCREEN! something is wrong, I had much higher in nouveau...
I am slightly confused on the wiki documentation between the differences of /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ -files- (I have gotten rid of xorg.conf and changed vesa to nvidia in 20-gpudriver.conf)
My machine is a p4 3.2HT with 3 gigs RAM, and a Geforce 6200 card, (by NO means a fast machine, but I should be having better performance than this. If nouveau used to run better than this, something HAS to be wrong)

Like I stated, Opengl games lag very bad, Video streaming is laggy, especially in fullscreen, because it isn't being hardware accelerated.

You'll have to provide more info: glxinfo, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, xorg.conf or other X config files if you have any (beyond the two regular ones for evdev and quirks)...

Tried it. No change. When I open new windows, move windows around desktop, or go to videos with lots of flash and/or streaming video, conky shows my processors spike hard. Video isn't taking the load.

You have one of the crappiest cards (the 6200 is reeeally low-end) on one of the crappiest processors (look at the timeline of Intel processors, you'll see something very significant regarding P4), so what do you expect? Does Windows give you better performance?

In your 20-gpudriver.conf do you have options like :

Option "TripleBuffer" "True"If not, re-read carefuly the wiki.

@xamaco: RenderAccel is the default, and TripleBuffer might actually slow things down if you're short on video-ram.

1. the 'i' in 'pacman -Qi cairo' is not needed to get the package version. SORE-LOSER, I really hope you knew how to check what version of a package you have installed.
2. cairo 1.12 is still in [testing] - I think OP knows if he's running [testing] or not.

cairo is seeming to be an improvement over cairo-ubuntu. Also, a newer version of nvidia was in today's pacman -Syu. Multiple windows open is smoother with regular cairo 1.10. Thanks everyone for the help.
Is there any other things that I may try to squeeze as much performance as possible out of this mediocre hardware?
