Invalid prefix in RA in errors.log on Thinkpad

Hi All,

I was just doing some random log checking when I found this in my errors.log:

...
2012-04-09T22:37:22+08:00 navi dhcpcd[691]: wlan0: invalid prefix in RA
2012-04-09T22:38:17+08:00 navi dhcpcd[691]: wlan0: invalid prefix in RA
2012-04-09T22:38:44+08:00 navi dhcpcd[691]: wlan0: invalid prefix in RA
...

I am not sure when this started to happen but this wasn't there last time I checked.

I am running Arch on a Thinkpad Edge 11.

Below are some additional info. Any help on clarifying what's happening or how to fix this (if it is an issue) is greatly appreciated.

Re: Invalid prefix in RA in errors.log on Thinkpad

Hi.
May be I'm too late. Nevertheless.

INTRO

I came across this kind of log files pollution today. Tried hard to google to find the cure. Finally I decided to look into the sources of dhcpcd and found out this message is related to ipv6, namely dhcpcd doesn't respect some linklocal requests. Next thing I discovered was my home router has ipv6 support i couldn't switch off and type of connection was that same 'linklocal' by default.

SOLUTION
  • Setup different type of ipv6 connection on your router or whatever.

  • Don't bother:

    sudo echo noipv6rs >> /etc/dhcpcd.conf
    sudo rc.d restart network
