Hello to the Board
I'd be most grateful is someone could please help me get my wireless connection up and running on my HP dv2000. I have installed network manager which connects fine when using wired connection.
When I click the network manager icon I can even see my Hub but I just cant connect ('Wireless Networks' is grey and says 'Disconected'). I'm sure it's something embarassingly simple but regardless, I am starting to get frustrated !!
Here is some info:
[ipsofacto@MyBox splashy-full]$ lspci | grep -i net
05:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)
08:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation PRO/100 VE Network Connection (rev 02) [ipsofacto@MyBox splashy-full]$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=15 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
eth0 no wireless extensions. [ipsofacto@MyBox splashy-full]$ dmesg | grep -i wifi
[ 5.004275] iwl3945 0000:05:00.0: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 3945ABG I am using XFCE4
Apologies if I have left something of importance out. This is the Newbie forum !!
Thanks for reading..

Welcome to the forums.
I suggest you take a few minutes to read the Wireless Setup page on the wiki. It has alot of useful info on how to setup your wifi (and even a separate section for your specific card).
Burninate!

I have the same exact wireless. Is there a hardware switch for the wireless i had the same problem a while go it was grayed out in network manager.

How are we supposed to know whether you have a hardware switch or not, when you dont post the output what i 've asked in my last post.

How could we know if *your* machine has a hardware switch? Think about it.
Anyway, while a ipw3945 problem was reported for 3.4-rc1, it's possible that backporting stuff to 3.3.1 broke that version too. So try this patch: http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=13 … 427374&w=2
Kernel 3.4-rc2 has this patch already applied, so you could also try that. Yert another possibility is using wireless-compat.

Srry about my previous post. I should of said you can try and check the bios to see if wlan is disabled. I had it happen to me once but it would still show up under network manager.
