[SOLVED]Local database error at "select packages" step

Hi All,

Doing a re-install from net with latest CD, but I can't seem to get past the select packages step.
It fails when trying to re-fresh the package lists, when I have a look at the error .. it is saying the local database version is too old and
to run "pacman-db-update"

So I switch to another console and execute pacman-db-update and try again, but still the error ..... what gives?
In the past with older versions of the CD I have had no problems ..

In fact I tried my really old version .... but it fails now with "FATAL kernel too old" messages ..

So I am between a rock and a hard place .. can anyone help.

I need to get this PC installed or suffer the wrath of my 16 yr old ;-)

Cheers,
Bernie

Re: [SOLVED]Local database error at "select packages" step

I seem to recall having that issue and getting past it when I last installed from the 'stable' installer.  These days I only use the snapshot isos, though.  Maybe you should give that a try.

Thanks, will give that a shot .... how did you "get past it" with the stable install?

Sorry, I meant that I running pacman-db-update did what it was supposed to do and I was able to continue.

Re: [SOLVED]Local database error at "select packages" step

No Problem ;-)

I tried the new ISO and I get past that point, I partition the disks, does all the steps upto installing GRUB, then I am given two entries for every partition
i.e two /dev/sda1's two /dev/sda2's etc .... I installed grub on one of the /dev/sda1's but it failed to boot ..

Loaded up the install CD and got up to the setup disk option and I go to manually setup the disk and find all the double entries ... this is crazy, I have never seen this before.

It won't let me manually set them up with existing filesystems ...

The only options seems to be start again with a fresh format with option 1 , but then the same thing is likely to happen .... the disk or the installer .. is stuffed !!

Re: [SOLVED]Local database error at "select packages" step

The snapshot ISOs are engineering (ie. testing) releases.  You should check the bug tracker and report the issues you encountered if someone hasn't already done so.

But are you sure grub was supposed to be installed on sda1?  Generally, grub is installed on the MBR (ie. sda).

Yep, sorry typo .. I did install grub to /dev/sda

I have since replaced the hard drive, and have found no more issues ... so I guess this is solved.
