Hello,
I just rebooted my laptop after a few weeks for the first time. I installed
numerous updates during that time.
When gdm loads it crashes and I get the "We encountered an error" picture
with the sad computer smily. I tired booting into runlevel 3 and used startx but I
ended up with the same problem. Disabeling both Gnome Shell Extersions
didn't work.
Where exactly is the log for Gnome-Shell and all that so that I can post it here?
I quickly installed basic xfce4 which works fine so the graphics driver which
was updated seems to work ok.
Regards,
blackout23

Is it perhaps this; https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/29408
I can login to Gnome but can't shutdown/reboot. KDE throws a consolekit error but works OK anyway. I'm gonna try downgrading consolekit.

I just fixed it.
Downgraded from nvidia 294.40 -> nvidia 295.33-1 since I did not have nvidia-utils 295.33-2 for nvidia 295.33-2. Had to downgrad Linux 3.3 -> Linux 3.2.14 for this.
Now everything works. It seems that the latest driver is bugged.
With 294.40 I managed to start a fallback session via startx. But when I booted into gdm directly it crashed.

Could someone help me out with this?
This is annoying as piss. For weeks I can't do a full system update, because
the newest nvidia drivers make my Gnome Crash. This also means I'm stuck
with linux-3.2.14.
When Laptop boots into X11 and GDM -> Crash after a few seconds. I get to see
the background and mouse cursor only. "An error occured. Blabla.." Logout User.
When I start x with exec gnome-session the same thing. This is the output.

Just wanted to say that the newest nvidia driver finally fixed it.
And HOLY SHIT is linux fast now. I'm using systemd and it takes maybe 4 seconds to GDM now after
I selected my boot entry in syslinux. I'm using a Crucial M4 SSD and it was always really fast but now it is even faster.
Must be due to the new Kernel I guess.

yes, I upgraded to 295.49-1 this morning and gnome-shell is not crashing/segfaulting or grinding to a halt
