Take a look at this screenshot of my background: http://i42.tinypic.com/6ntmhv.png
This is happening in other places too, like the web browser, chat and so on.
Downgrading to 295.33-1 is not an option since it has vulnerabilities (I've read on this forum). Also, I don't want to downgrade my kernel.

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Fortunately, it turns out that the problem is namely affecting those with pre-G80 graphics hardware.
Interesting.
I own a GTX 580 though. Anyway, I'll wait. Maybe the new driver will fix my problem too.
I must say my experience with Nvidia in Linux has been really bad. Through updates the past 4-6 months, there has been duplicate icons bug, computer unable to turn off completely, freezes and now this...
Nouveau isn't an option either for me since I get frequent "gpu lockups" with that driver. ![]()

This update break my system. I've to install the previus version 295.33 all ok. (With gnome 3.4.1)
Sumary : Please do not use 295.40 or the security patch with GeForce 6, 7 or 8800GTX/GTS cards.

The 295.33 driver with the security patch works without degrading performances on my integrated GPU GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i.
Others tell also that the patched 295.33 driver works for them on their gpu.
So I cannot agree with the advice not to use the security patch. I think the bug in the 295.40 is elsewhere then the security fix.
From http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpos … stcount=10 Plagman of NVIDIA Corporation says:
We've identified a performance problem with integrated graphics chipsets that got included in the 295.40 release, but is independent of the security fix. Expect a fix shortly.
