MythTV 0.25 should now be in [community-staging]. Feel free to try it out: any testing would be much appreciated. I can't move it to [community] yet as there has not yet been a tarball release of mythplugins 0.25.

Right, both should be in [community] now. However, myththemes is gone as you're supposed to download new themes from within mythfrontend now.
EDIT: my favourite theme was no longer available, so I've put it on the AUR

Thanks PirateJonno. Is there anything special you have to do before upgrading? I obviously don't want to lose all my shows, etc.

Thanks graysky. I do backup my database (when I remember to, anyways!). So is upgrading to 0.25 as simple as a pacman upgrade then? I am a little paranoid with a major upgrade as my wife would be more than a little upset without her tv!

@OP - many conflicting files in filesystem found. Has the scope of the mythtv package been widened to include themes as well?

It includes a few themes by default, as there is no myththemes package anymore (although I didn't run into any conflicts when I had both installed IIRC). See the release notes for info on upgrading. Of note: if using a custom VDPAU profile you should remove the vdpaubuffersize filter, if not you might want to consider using VA-API. Apparently the subtitle fonts have been reset or something. There are some new metadata capabilities which I haven't figured out yet. Otherwise the upgrade should go smoothly provided you're using at least version 0.22

Relatively smooth upgrade from 0.24 for me. Database updated itself OK.
I had to delete the conflicting themes as noted above before it would install. My favourite theme, mythbuntu, doesn't appear in the downloadable themes list, so I went to the official theme site (ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/mythtv/themes/), directly downloaded it, and unzipped it to ~/.mythtv/themes/.
All good so far!

Will add replaces & conflicts soon (should've really done so in the first place I guess). I just need to work out a bug I'm having first, in case that needs fixing too

Hey, be nice...I'm new at this!

The python errors are most likely due to the python-lxml name change. However, as mentioned above you need to remove myththemes before updating mythtv (this will be done automatically as of version 0.25-2). I would suggest running
# pacman -Syuinstead of selectively updating packages (so the python-lxml files get moved to /usr/lib/python3 or whatever)

I can confirm that upgrade went smoothly today with full system upgrade:
Replace myththemes with community/mythtv? [Y/n]With default 'Y' there were no hiccups whatsoever.
Thanks.

My installation has not gone hiccup-less. Everything seems to be working except for 'Watch Videos'. After upgrading my database I opened mythtv and realized that selecting 'Watch Videos' from within 'Media Library' didn't do anything. After a little looking around it turns out that upgrading does not automatically remove the .24 mythplugins-mythtv. It appeared that having it on the system still was stopping my videos from working. After removing the plugin the option for Watch Videos has completely disappeared from my menu.
Anyone have any idea how to get this to return? I did a reinstall of mythtv hoping that it would re-create the menu option but it did not.
Offline
Right, I should probably have added that to replaces/conflicts as well. Try changing the menu theme in the appearance settings (mine is set to 'Default' and 'Watch Videos' appears under 'Media Library').

Hi Guys,
I've been using the open-sasc-569 from AUR with MythTV 0.24 with no problems at all. The MythTV server would run for weeks without problems. Now with MythTV 0.25, the loopback DVB adapters are constantly failing. Any similar experiences or words of guidance here? For now, I'm back to 0.24

That package is marked out of date. Maybe try a newer version? I have no experience with this myself, however.

Does anyone here use the mythmusic plugin? I have never been able to get it to work on my rig. It sees all the music, but it spits out some error when I press play.

Well I did some digging around so I'll repond to my own post in case someone else needs this. Strangely enough it turns out that the protocol used between the sc reader and sasc-ng in the beginning of the chain can affect stability when used with MythTV. Newcamd has been very stable with earlier versions of MythTV. I switched to camd35 protocol because sasc-ng was developed in heavy association with camd35. Now it's been running for about a day now which is a good sign.
For the record, the cardclient.conf that comes with sasc-ng is a bit misleading:
#
# Comment lines can start with # or ;
#
# every client line starts with the client name, followed by some arguments:
# 'hostname' is the name of the server
# 'port' is the port on the server
# 'emm' is a flag to allow EMM transfers to the server
# (0=disabled 1=enabled)
# 'caid' (optional) caid on which this client should work
# 'mask' (optional) mask for caid e.g. caid=1700 mask=FF00 would allow
# anything between 1700 & 17FF.
# Default is 1700 & FF00. If only caid is given mask is FFFF.
# You may give multiple caid/mask values comma separated

That is where mine was before upgrading. Now if I change my menu to something like media center or classic I have the watch videos but not under the 'Default' option. I only have music and pictures under the media library.

That's weird. Not even 'watch recordings?' If you run mythfrontend on the command line (maybe with some verbose options) does it report anything strange?
EDIT: Another thing you might want to try is removing the cache files from ~/.mythtv

I looked at my /usr/share/mythtv/themes/defaulmenu directory and I have mainmenu.xml. Under mainmenu.xml "watch recordings" references library.xml which is in the same directory. You could open library.xml and see what buttons are there. If you need to edit one or both of these files (mainmenu.xml & library.xml) I'd copy them to the mythtv users home directory ~/.mythtv/ and edit it there. Restart the frontend afterwards and your changes should take. Could it be you have a mainmenu.xml &/or library.xml in ~/.mythtv already?
Lukily, my upgrade to .25 went smoothly. Thanks PirateJonno!
