Hey guys, first time poster here. I've been trying to help myself and figure everything out, but tonight I've found myself completely stuck.
I decided to do a fresh install since my initial install was getting pretty cluttered. I installed yaourt and attempted to install the awesome window manager, which I've successfully installed several times in the past. It failed because I needed the cairo-xcb package, which is an problem I remember from a previous attempt at installing awesome. Last time I just installed it from the AUR.
Tonight however, it seems the cairo-xcb package has disappeared from the AUR. Here is a link to where the package *should* be: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40641
I've also noticed this with a couple other packages, but I don't recall any other specific names. If anyone has the cairo-xcb package that would be extremely helpful.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Edit: I should just mention that I found that AUR link to cairo-xcb by Googling "cairo-xcb" which is what I'm 99% sure I did a little while back when installing awesome.

Cairo in [testing] now supports xcb, awesome wm has also been added in [testing]. It seems the maintainer for cairo-xcb was rather quick with removing the package from the AUR

You could just use abs to download the cairo PKGBUILD (get the [extra] one not the [testing] one) and enable xcb there. That's basically all that cairo-xcb is anyway.

I was a little bit surprised by myself when I was notified that cairo 1.12.0 will stay in testing for a while and so awesome will go there, too. Anyway, the files are still available at:
cairo-xcb 1.12.0
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ca/c … xcb.tar.gz

xcb got enabled: https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … 164c767c4b
and disabled https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … 895d6eb5dd
Currently (1.12 in [testing]) xcb seems disabled: https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … ages/cairo

It's still enabled, because it is enabled by default in 1.12.0. What was disabled is the usage of xcb for xlib applications.
$ pacman -Ql cairo | grep xcb
cairo /usr/include/cairo/cairo-xcb.h
cairo /usr/lib/pkgconfig/cairo-xcb-shm.pc
cairo /usr/lib/pkgconfig/cairo-xcb.pc

Ah, thanks for the explanation.

Wow you guys, this forum is amazing. I post before bed and come back in to morning to find several answers to my problem. Thanks for the help guys, hopefully I won't need to ask for it often. I really like to try and be self sufficient, but this time my inner Arch newb got the best of me.
I've marked the thread as [SOLVED]. Thanks!

So wait, someone above you removed stuff from the AUR because it had gone into [testing], even though said stuff will likely be in testing for a while thereby limiting it to those using [testing]? That's ... illogical at best.
Is there an actual specific rule about stuff from the AUR being removed once it hits [testing] (which can cause issues like this one), or is it just someone being overzealous about purging the AUR of things available in any official repo, including the one with the big red "You probably don't want to use this" warning?
Which mailing list should the torches-and-pitchforks mail be sent to? (Well, maybe not that bad, but crap like this is aggravating.)
(Even the guys who "helpfully" updated the install instructions seem to have forgotten the [testing] bit. No wonder people complain about Arch /o\ I'll edit the instructions a bit if it's clear xduugu won't be allowed to put up cairo-xcb and awesome again.)

Does it make any difference whether I build cairo-xcb myself or install it via [testing]? Is one of those ways to be preferred?

Install the testing package and when you encounter graphical glitches, downgrade to cairo-xcb 1.10.2 (because the cairo 1.10.2 from the repos does not include the xcb backend).
