[SOLVED]Awesome wm: empty bottom section

I recently installed awesome wm and the default config has an empty section at the bottom of the screen:

I can't find out how to take it out of the default config. Does anyone else know how to get rid of it? My awesome rc.lua is

I think you can try put

size_hints_honor = false

into properties section in awful.rules.rules table

known "problemo"  with awesome ,that's why i ditched it and got into http://wmfs.info/  much better

I ran into the same issue with Awesome. Like anrxc said, you did not add "size_hints_honor = false" to the awful.rules.rules table correctly. To be more specific, I fixed my issue by adding size_hints_honor = false underneath the line "buttons = clientbuttons". Remember to add the comma to the end of "buttons = clientbuttons" and you should be golden. Here is my properties section for reference:

I've since installed a different distro on my laptop, and awesome works fine, but that means I'm unable to test the solution. I can't recreate the problem on my desktop (running Arch) either! I'm happy to mark this as solved, as it looks like BluMongoose has the fix!
