Arch won't boot: how can I find out why?

Hi,

My desktop PC won't boot Arch: when I select it from GRUB, it print the "decompressing kernel, booting linux" message, and then it goes to black (it is not like the display is off, it is like it was painting a black background), but the PC doesn't reboot, it's still working.

How can I get it to boot something to get more information on why it isn't starting? I was thinking on booting a live image, mounting the desktop HD and getting the boot logs, but I don't know how to do it.
