Hey all. When I start up my machine, the brightness is at full intensity, but when I use the Fn keys to change it, the brightness drops way off and the screen is almost unreadable. The problem is exactly the same as this one.

When I go into /sys/class/backlight/nv_backlight/ , the max brightness is 1025 and the brightness is 1073864551.
After I use the Fn keys, the brightness drops to 1025 and won't go any higher. Trying to change the brightness manually results in a bunch of errors even when I'm root.
The solution posted is to use kernel 2.6.38-0.rc5.git1.1.fc15.x86_64 but I'm not really sure if I should do that or even how to go about doing it.
My current kernel version is 3.1.4-1-ARCH
Do you guys have any suggestions?

Okay so I did a little more tinkering and switched from the nouveau graphics driver to the nvidia one. Now my screen is stuck at the full brightness and the Fn keys do nothing. I have checked both /sys/class/backlight/ and /proc/acpi/video/ and can find no entries on backlight. I also tried adding acpi_backlight=vendor to my menu.lst file to no avail.
Is there something in /etc/X11/xorg.conf that I should be changing? I added the line
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
to my "Device" category per the instructions on another post with no results.
Suggestions?

I also noticed that when I try to manually change the brightness/gamma/contrast settings in the Nvidia Xserver settings, they automatically reset to their default values even though the scroll bar is changed.
Maybe this is a bug with the driver? Can anyone explain how to try different drivers? I'm fairly new to arch.
