Gnome 3.4.1 in extra

Hi,
Gnome 3.4.1 has just been moved to extra, and I must say that I'm quite disappointed. I don't see many new features, only new smooth scrolling (which is more annoying than useful tbh) and some GUI changes.

I have two problems, though:
1) The whole experience is much worse on my machine than it was with gnome 3.2. When I switch workspaces, I see a lot of tearing, it used to be much smoother. The same apply for dragging and moving windows and basically for everything else. My roommate doesn't have this problem, so I guess there must be a problem with my configuration. 2) I've read that gnome 3.4 brings a new application menu, but when I activate the menu by clicking on the icon on the panel, I see only "quit". Is there some package I don't have? ([SOLVED] thanks to kadel for the intel, what a pity I don't have any of the applications that support it )

Edit:
It seems that the annoying scrolling was a bug with my synaptics touchpad. I solved it by installing package gsynaptics. Or add

Option "CoastingSpeed" "0"

to your xorg config, see wonder.

Hi Vena,
about new application menu, application must have support for this and most of them don't have. You can seen new menu for example in Contacts, Document or new Web application.

I have the same problem, with an Intel card (Intel Ironlake Mobile)
It's noticeably slower when moving windows and dragging thing in Gnome-Shell. GTK seems slower to render some widgets, also.
Arch is up-to-date.

Yep. Intel HD here. I guess this is a problem with Intel graphics.

to fix the annoying scrolling add in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf

 Option "CoastingSpeed" "0"

For the performance/tearing problem with Intel HD cards:

After some research, I think I found a workaround.
putting
CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling
in /etc/environment seems to make things better, certainly more bearable than before.

Hi all. I have a problem. after updating gnome-shell don't start (on screnn i see only wallpappers and cursor).
in log i see:

gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libgck-1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

system is up to date.
srry for mi bad english.

you did pacman -Syuf. NEVER USE -f along with -u.

solution reinstall gcr

also reintall all packages that have missing files. pacman -Qk

I dont have any problems with gnome 3.4... everything works fine.
My video card is intel ironlake i915.

Wow... So many comments about Intel Graphics. I am using it too and currently getting my system up-to-date to have Gnome 3.4 installed. Will feedback about my experience after it is installed.

Gnome 3.4.1 is more impressive on a multitouch computer, given that GTK 3.4 has also been released (features multitouch support), and many of the gnome apps support scrolling with fingers now, which is unbelievably useful.

Sorry to crosspost, but I think this better belongs here:
I'd like to invert the scrolling direction (like natural scrolling on a mac). This worked fine before GNOME 3.4 just by switching buttons 4 and 5 in .Xmodmap. But now, with GNOME's new scrolling abilities, only some apps care about this setting (e.g. chromium, gnome-terminal), whereas other ones (native apps like nautilus and gedit) behave like standard (and are also scrolling more smoothly).
This happens with a physical mouse as well as with a touchpad.
Does anyone have an idea how to get the old scrolling back for all applications? Or maybe how to change scrolling direction in the new scrolling system?

Anyone know what's the problem with touchpad randomly stopping to work for a few seconds with 3.4.1 gnome? Also sometimes it scrolls down only with one finger (default is two finger scrolling).

When I installed it, I logged out and logged back in and it was great, but now when I try to start it with startx I get this:

** (process:1332): WARNING **: Timeout was reached

I checked with top and that process is gsd-printer, which is a part of gnome-settings-daemon.
I can start gnome-shell just fine, but when I try to launch the gnome-session, I get the error. Only the default X black screen shows.
I have no .xsession-errors file.

Nautilus is not using default GTK theme (inverting font color is one issue), doing

killall nautilus

and opening it again solves the issue temporarily until next login or reboot. Any ideas?

If you're not using Adwaita, the most likely problem is the GTK theme you're using needs to be updated for gtk 3.4.
