FluxBB 1.5 around the corner - garnered with anti-spam improvements
Hello ArchLinux-folks!
I just released the beta of FluxBB 1.5.0.
It will allow for automatically promoting users to new groups based on their post count, essentially allowing for a more fine-grained permission structure and, in combination with the other new feature (disallowing links in posts on a per-group basis) for a simple, yet effective anti-spam measure.
It will also bring along all changes in the upcoming 1.4.9 release, also fixing the issue with subscriptions to splitted and merged threads that was reported here.
Thought that might be interesting to you guys...
v1.5.0 is expected to be released in about a week.

Does this only cover links in posts? Because spammers also put links into their profile website, signature and probably any of the other fields. I have some doubts if that feature will work, but we might test it. It could also be annoying for legit users and we could end up with people trying to work around the url detection (e.g. using http:/ /www.archlinux.org)

That's exactly the problem. Maybe I'll find some time to check how many people post links in their first ten posts for example. Anyway, this needs to be tested I guess; but the current solution works pretty well.
