UEFI(?) Problem

I've got a new Mainboard (MSI-P67A) yesterday, one of the UEFI based boards. But it's not a true UEFI, apparently, since it still supports the
old MBR booting method. What ever the case, Arch does *not* like it at all. Both the official install ISO and Archboot refuse to start. The official
one flakes out at ":: Mounted archiso volume successfully" (blocks forever at that point) and Archboot locks up at "Starting udevd".

Now, this seems Arch specific, I'm typing this from an emergency Ubuntu installation (please, get me out of here!), so Linux is not to blame.

If the ISO refuses to work, can I just bootstrap Arch via Ubuntu, as in remount '/' and override it with Arch's files? That would work, wouldn't it?

Re: UEFI(?) Problem

This isn't an answer but there are two distinctions here. First, MBR vs. GPT partition maps. That is, how you set up the hard drive. Second, UEFI vs. "legacy" BIOS booting.

If the board supports it, have you checked that any BIOS switch enabling BIOS/legacy booting is enabled? My setup screens offer UEFI only, BIOS only, UEFI first and BIOS first.

The standard Arch iso won't boot in UEFI mode. The standard Ubuntu one will. Archboot should (but I haven't used it).

What are you booting from? (Internal drive? USB key/drive? CD?) My machine will boot loads of things on USB sticks which it wouldn't dream of allowing if they were on the internal drive. No idea why but handy when it is so fussy about stuff on the internal.

Figure out what UEFI firmware you have and search for forum posts/google that. Different versions have different... quirks and need different work arounds/setups.
