Gdm (and gnome) fails to start after nvidia upgrade (295.40-2)

Gdm fails to start after the last nvidia upgrade packages (nvidia 295.40-2 and nvidia-utils 295.40-1).

The solution was downgrade to nvidia 295.33-2 and nvidia-utils 295.33-1.

I look into the file :0-greeter.log (/var/log/gdm) and found this message at the end of the file:

(gnome-settings-daemon:997): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
g_dbus_connection_real_closed: Remote peer vanished with error: Underlying GIOStream returned 0 bytes on an async read (g-io-error-quark, 0). Exiting.

Hope this help.

I do not know if they are related to your specific problem but there are several threads on this forum and the nV forum about issues with this driver, which are also acknowledge by nvidia.

Re: Gdm (and gnome) fails to start after nvidia upgrade (295.40-2)

The problem is in the nvidia package as reported here  and here.

The solution is to downgrade to 295.33-1 and wait for the solution upstream.

My GPU is GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M.

Best.
