[SOLVED] Gnome starts in fallback mode after upgrading

Hi all,

today I have upgraded my system (unfortunately I don't have anymore "pacman.log") and gnome doesn't start like before.
The issue is related to video driver (catalyst) because when I start the system, I have this error:

"ERROR: could not insert 'fglrx': Invalid argument"

I have "nomodeset" in kernel line.
Furthermore I tried downgrade the driver from 12.4-1 to 12.3 and 11.8, without results.. Maybe a kernel problem?
What I can try to do?

Also happens to me on boot with Openbox/LXDE.

Trying to load the module once in Desktop gives the same error:

[craag@craag-12eee ~]$ sudo modprobe fglrx
ERROR: could not insert 'fglrx': Invalid argument

dmesg gives some output when the above line is run.

[ 1647.962156] fglrx: disagrees about version of symbol wake_up_process
[ 1647.962167] fglrx: Unknown symbol wake_up_process (err -22)

Kernel 3.3.4 x86_64 stock, catalyst-12.4-1

Re: [SOLVED] Gnome starts in fallback mode after upgrading

I have resolved (thanks to IRC channel! smile ).
I hope it could help you too.

My problem was that I hadn't installed catalyst-hook or catalyst-daemon package, hence when I installed last driver it can't be able to recompile the module.

Then:

1. I downloaded last linux headers
2. I downloaded last video driver
3. I installed catalyst-hook, then run "catalyst_build_module"

..et voilà!

Now it works like a charm! smile
