[SOLVED-ISH] No sound since kernel upgrade

Hello!

I just upgraded to linux-3.3.3-1 a few hours ago and ever since my sound stopped working. ALSA is properly set up and there are no muted channels, but neither speaker-test nor any application (from mpd over VLC to any games) does give me a single sound. Also rmmod'ing and modprobe'ing my drivers doesn't help ...

I can't seem to figure this out. Upgrading to a newer kernel from testing doesn't work either, by the way. I think my sound card does get detected but there is no sound coming out -- internel speakers or headphones don't work. The weird thing is that the mixer settings work and there is no error message in the logs saying that there is a problem with the sound drivers or whatever.

In an older thread I found (from 2009) someone suggested to blacklist the snd-intel-8x0m module and modprobing the snd-pcm-oss module which I did, but that didn't work either.

Try alsamixer from console to check the volume / mute settings for the channels on your sounddevice.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?

That wasn't the problem ... however, completely removing everything alsa and pulse and reinstalling all of it helped. It's working again, although I still don't get what the problem actually was.
