hi,
I am running with Kernel 3.1 in my laptop but I am seeing very big difference in terms of battery life compared to the previous one (2.6.38).
So, I though to return to the kernel 2.6.38 in order to bring my energy consumning about 13/14 watts per hours.
Which could be the main problems in case I passed to older kernel ?
thanks a lot

You're saying that the old kernel is more efficient?? If so, that's very interesting because I have seen the opposite on an old Dell Latitude D630. ~2hrs on kernel 2.6.38 (usually less) - WIndows 7 running with 2.3 hours - and the current kernels (3.0 - 3.3.4 are kernels I've run) giving me 2.5 - 3+ hrs of life. I also have cpufrequtils installed and am using the ondemand governer... https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CP … cy_Scaling
I can see many problems, because many programs are built for a minumum kernel version of 3.0 + for an example, which means your kernel is severely outdated. There were also a few kernel exploits patched over (though I can't remember the severity, but the Ubuntu guys for 11.04 which use that kernel applied a specific patch, not sure if Arch uses this patch).

Hi,
I am just saying that with my old kernel I had a better battery life. How many watts are you consuming with your laptop?
What have you done with bring your configuration so light?
thanks a lot

Mine has (right now on Mint 12 - 3.0.0.19kernel) on idle ~8-9W -> TP Edge e420, i3+radeon 6630M (switched off) with wifi on and less than 50% brightness
i have pcie_aspm=force and rc6 enabled in grub
