Re: May 2012 Screenshots

I repaired a old machine I had lying around... and I put FreeBSD 9.0 on it. Never have really dabbled into BSD at all, so it's mainly a learning experience.  It's running KDE 3.5 for a DE (Mainly because I prefer it.) All in all, things seem to be coming along nicely.

Sorry for sticking my nose where it doesn't belong but don't you think that KDE 3.5 is to much obsolete? It's not maintained since 2008. There is a lot of other choices suitable for older hardware but under active development (e.g xfce, lxde, standalone openbox or whole bunch of ultralight WM).

This hardware really isn't that old... Dual Core Celeron... GeForce GTS 250 GPU, 4GB RAM, etc.

When I started using Linux, KDE was the first environment I used. I think late KDE2 or early 3, I only remember 3. So, when I saw KDE3.5 in /usr/ports, I got that nostalgia mindset going on.

On FreeBSD, it's actually really stable and runs great, and I haven't had a problem using the latest versions of all the dependencies, even though it's no longer maintained. Only problem I have, and it doesn't bother me at all (because it doesn't affect how it performs), is that I can't make QT3/QT4/GTK+ all use the same theme, but I'm sure there's a reason for that.

To be honest, I was actually expecting a little breakage with it. I tend to learn when I break things.

I'm now using stlarch_font for icons (it's in AUR). It's much better than builtin icons in termsyn font.

Recently switched back to Zenburn, I'm using a slightly modified version of Suraj's Zenburn Terminal colorscheme in this shot.
I've been using Emacs a lot lately for org-mode, however I still cling to vim for (most) coding and config editing.

Could you tell me what battery-monitor app you use (in the systray)?

Re: May 2012 Screenshots

That's xfce4-power-manager piped into the notification area applet. The icon is from Faenza Darker.

Re: May 2012 Screenshots

After spending some time in the tiling world, I'm back floating. The xfce's new edge-tiling function (a la Win7 style) is really winning points for me.

This is an early screenshot of my newbie Arch installation. Of course, it is a work in progress. OpenBox with tint2. Clearlooks-3.4 theme.

I hope I have met the posting requirements.
