fresh install using virtualbox

Hello all,
I'm not sure if this should be here or in the Install directory, but here goes:

I have the archlinux-2011.08.19-core-dual.iso file, which I am mounting inside a virtual machine.  The "hard drive" is a virtual vmdk pointing at the raw 32GB usb flash drive connected to my tower.  No matter how I partition or format the drive, either inside the VM or outside on the host, I always get some DMA errors (among other things) during the format process.  Sometimes the format will eventually complete, but it usually takes 4 or more hours to do so.  If it DOES complete, my linux will be functional but slow, and eventually breaks (I just came from backtrack 5, which eventually made the drive read only after starting firefox).
The same errors happen regardless of what version of linux I am installing and regardless of whether access to the drive is direct on a physical machine, virtualized through virtual disk, or virtualized through a USB stack in a VM.
Below are the errors.  That pattern keeps looping, and the only thing that changes are the hex values.

Try with linux-lts.
