Idea: Integrate Tetris into installer

How about integrating tetris-bsd into the arch installer?

This wil increase the installation experience of arch, will make the users happy and, arch will be the first distro having it.

What do you think?

I think it takes 5 minutes to install the core system from disc, as well as netinstall with a good connection.  You wouldn't make it past the first level before you were required to manually configure and reboot the system.  Also, one's eyes should be on the output on the screen and/or the Beginner's Guide, not some falling blocks.

I knew and used a live CD that allowed you to play Tetris while it resized/recreated partitions... Was it the gparted live CD? I really don't remember, it was years ago. But it was a really cool idea smile

I don't think this fits into the 'simple' philosophy of Arch. Plus like ANOKNUSA said, its such a short install process it seems needless. Not to mention I want to watch the output for any errors that might occur.

No.

What makes you think this would enhance the experience for Archers?

For those new to Arch, it would, IMO, just set up an expectation that we are all the sort of mindless simpletons that require instant gratification even when faced with momentary lulls, such as those in the installation process...

Now if you wanted to write a patch that scrolled the Beginners' Guide past in TTY2 a la Star Wars, that would be different.

Forget tetris, I want nethack, crawl and dwarf fortress in the installer.

And don't forget minesweeper.

Not only is the part of the installation where you're not needing to interact with it very short, but I expect that most of us who really want to play Tetris during an install probably have smartphones with Tetris installed that we could just pull out and play on anyway.

Re: Idea: Integrate Tetris into installer

As long as we do not have to connect to the installer through a MUD client, everything is fine.
