There's this blog called The Setup that profiles the work setups of various people and they profiled Eric Raymond today. He says he uses Ubuntu 11.10 but is considering moving to Arch.

Well, it's interesting to know, even if it's no big deal. I would have thought Off Topic would be a better place to put it though ;-)
Personally, I'm surprised that ESR would, first of all, start using Ubuntu, and secondly, keep on using it. He seems more like the sort who would like Gentoo.

There are some valid reasons why people use ubuntu. The size of the comunity, the apps, taking linux to the masses. I do agree that there are so many reasons not to use ubuntu.

It seems like an interesting thing. I think it's useful to think about what sort of software different people and what they consider important. By understanding what attracts people to different software tools and what makes them switch, we can make better software.

A lot of people distro-hop. I am not surprised if ESR does it. I think its natural.

I am actually quite particularly honored that ESR is contemplating Arch as his next distro of choice.
Having contributed to Arch documentation and forum administration with a deep sense of loyalty and devotion for a few years, I feel proudly connected to this project's status and quality- as all contributing members should.
Say what you will, but I personally think having ESR as an Archer would be very cool.

I think he might already have used Arch. Maybe this is the time he talks about it. For that matter even Linus would have. but anyways I 'm finding more good news about Arch linux, recently!
